What To Expect Throughout The Cleanup Process

When you experience a water disaster at your commercial building in Glenpool, OK, mold can rear its ugly head well after you think the problem is solved. It could be quite a while before anyone even realizes that mold growth has occurred. It can quickly develop into a worse situation than the water damage itself, especially in the case of black mold. Whether a seemingly small or large issue, mold removal is crucial. Hiring mold remediation experts is highly recommended. You may be wondering what to expect throughout the cleanup process.

1. Preparation
The remediation crew will place plastic sheeting on the floor from the building entrance to the affected area. Then, they’ll run hoses along this path.

2. Personal Protective Equipment
Anyone working in this area must wear the necessary PPE to protect themselves and protect the rest of the building from cross-contamination. Hair covers, goggles, respirators, coveralls, gloves and shoe covers are essential while in the area. They must be removed and safely contained when leaving the site.

3. Spraying
An EPA-approved biocide is a critical part of the mold removal process. The remediation experts will spray it in the area and leave it overnight. The next day, they’ll spray the entire site with an encapsulant (i.e., a paint that encloses remaining mold spores).

4. Air Cleaning
The mold-removal professionals will clean the air with high-efficiency particulate air scrubbers to filter out mold spores. Then, they’ll use an air exchange which replaces the contaminated air with clean air.

5. Surface Cleaning
The professionals will then use a HEPA vacuum to clean the floor and other surfaces where mold spores may be lingering. Anything that’s unsalvageable will be carefully removed and disposed of. The workers will thoroughly clean, disinfect and dry additional items.
Mold is sneaky, so it pays to be proactive after an influx of water. Get an inspection to make sure the affected area is dry and mold-free. If you do discover an infestation, the quicker the mold removal process begins, the easier it’ll be to return your building to code.
